Chapter 3
This was a very intense chapter, it discussed many issues and problems that children have to face everyday. At the beginning of the chapter it talked about how teachers teach more than just academics and why it is important. I definitely feel like it is teachers jobs to teach kids about life as well as academics. Really it is the parents job to teach the kids about life but when they are at school they are like your kids, you need to teach them how to behave correctly in situations and how to be an important part of our society. I feel like it is especially important for teachers to teach kids about life and our community because even though they may have parents or guardians does not mean that they are learning anything from them. Schools try to get kids involved with their communities for example some high schools make their students do a set number of hours of community service which they should because it will help the students see what is going on around them and how they can make a difference. This chapter discussed many important issues when it comes to children in school like teen pregnancy, substance abuse, violence and crime and homelessness. I'm glad that there is a law to provide assistance to homeless persons, so that they can still attend school and get the same education as people who have money. This will give kids hope that even if they feel like things can't get any worse there is always someone there to help or there is always a way to improve you situation. It is also very important to deal with the issue of bullying because that really can have such a negative effect on students that can cause an interference with continuing their education or making them want to harm people because they have been harmed. Overall this was a very important chapter to read it talked about important issues that teachers need to be aware of so they can help their students grow in a positive way.
