Chapter 4
Ok, chapter 4 lots and lots of talk about philosophy and honestly not my favorite subject. Lots of information about why it is important and all the kinds of philosophy. I found it interesting and insightful to what my educational philosophy is. But it also seemed like a lot of stuff that is yes important but not something you have to know to be a teacher. I did find it interesting how there are so many different branches of philosophy and philisophical orientations to teaching. I took the quiz on page 133 and my highest score was for Reconstructionism. Which states that i am an advocate for schools taking the lead to reconstruct society. I was kind of surprised because i do feel that way, i didnt think this quiz would match me up that well. I do believe that it is up to schools to take the lead to change our society. We have the future generations in our hands and we need to show them how life is and how we can change it for the better. They are the ones who are going to grow up and make this world what it is so it is our jobs as teachers to make sure they grow up to be something benefiical to our society to help make it a better place. I truely believe that if teachers, parents and gaurdians constantly set good examples for kids and taught them how to make the most of life then we would have a lot less hatred, crime and violence in society and sooner or later the world. We just need to believe that it can happen and that every adult and child has good in them.

Hi Amy,
ReplyDeleteIt's great to have a reconstructionist in the bunch. I have some of that in myself. There is a book that you absolutely would love: Friere's Pedagogy of the Oppressed. I'll send you a book chapter that we used to read in this course. I still might try to work it in somehow.
I agree with the whole thing about this not being your favorite subject...not mine either. I also thought that it was cool to see what your philosophy was!
